During a significant announcement on Tuesday, President Joe Biden experienced another noticeable difficulty while delivering his speech. Biden was introducing a new executive action aimed at providing legal status to potentially half a million undocumented immigrants married to U.S. citizens.
The executive action itself marks a substantial shift in immigration policy, suggesting a path to legal status that could impact a significant number of individuals living in the U.S. without documentation.
However, the moment was marked by a series of stutters and prolonged pauses while referring to the Homeland Security Secretary. “Thanks to all the members of Congress and Homeland Security Secretary…” Biden said before a long pause and blank stare.
This comes after White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre came under fire after she dismissed a series of viral videos showing Biden looking frail and calling the videos “deepfakes.”
“It tells you everything that we need to know about how desperate Republicans are here,” Jean-Pierre claimed earlier in the week. “And instead of talking about the president’s performance in office, and what I mean by that is his legislative wins, what he’s been able to do for the American people across the country, we’re seeing these deepfakes, these manipulated videos. And it is done in bad faith.”
Several recent videos have captured Biden frozen, including D-Day commemorations in France, the G-7 summit in Italy, and Sunday’s campaign fundraiser . The videos have caused concerns over Biden’s old age and vitality.
